Social Media Marketing 101 by David Lyon
in Marketing / Social Marketing (submitted 2011-11-05)
I often see entrepreneurs with a strategic game plan, especially when launching a business, which involves passing out flyers, mass email campaign monitoring, “attempting” to sell their products on social media sites, and with confusion asking themselves, “Why is nothing working?” I think that it is funny how, on almost a daily basis, we see things and hear things that annoy us. We live in a generation of spam, and it is so difficult to trust anyone. We are the first to delete an email, without even opening it, the first to throw away a postcard that came in the mail, and the first to go out of our way when we see someone on the streets with a clipboard or flyer in their hand.
In business marketing, it is important to ask yourself, “Would I want someone to do this to me?” When I started my first business, I learned this first hand. I would be walking down the street, and see someone coming towards me with a flyer, and I would think to myself, “Great, another one!” I would kindly smile, take the flyer, pretend to be interested, and then at the next corner toss it. That same weekend, I just printed about 1000 copies of a flyer that was to be handed out by a new door to door sales team that I hired. I wanted the city to know about my new business, so I sent out these incredibly talented sales professionals to market my business on the streets. Guess what happened? Nothing! I was so blinded at the time, and could not figure out why these talented sales professionals could not market my new business. I thought, “There must be something wrong with their skills,” so I cleaned house and hired more. I did this several times over the course of my first six months in business, until one day when I was reading the Bible, I remembered that you should do unto others as you would want done unto you. I remembered this as a Sunday School lesson, but never put the concept into my business marketing techniques. I changed my strategies, and instantly saw results.
With Social Media Marketing, these same rules apply. What do you do when someone tries to sell you a product on Facebook? What do you do when a perfect stranger sends you an email? What do you do when someone does not have a photo on their profile? It is important to ask yourselves these questions, and then change your strategies accordingly.
Rule number one; “Facebook” is called “Facebook” for a reason. You should have a picture of yourself, not a logo of your company. If you have specific page dedicated to your company, a logo or “QR” Code is relevant. Again, think about how you view others when choosing an appropriate photograph for your profile. Would you trust, follow, and look up to a business owner who’s half naked in their profile photo? Think about how you want to be viewed, and then change your profile picture accordingly.
Rule number two; nobody wants to go into business with someone who is airing their dirty laundry to the public. If you have trashy, drunken, or unprofessional photographs, make those albums private. It is great to have fun, and people want to be friends with people they can relate to and party with, but not necessarily go into business with them. Keep your profile completely professional, exemplifying true leadership, and you attract the customers and business partners you are seeking. Make sure, too, that your profile is complete; spend some time filling out all information in every category so that others can get to know you. People like to do business with like-minded people.
Rule number three; nobody likes a negative Nancy. It is so important to remember that social media sites are viral. With threads and tags, there really is no telling who will see your wall or your profile. I often see business owners with status updates like this; “Today sucks,” or “I cannot believe how hard this business is.” Would you want to be in business with that person? It is imperative that every comment, status update, photograph, blog, tag, and Tweet be positive. Positivity breeds positivity; negativity breeds negativity.
Rule number four; you must date someone before asking for their hand in marriage. When looking for new customers, or new business partners, you cannot try and unload your business on them without knowing them first. People must know, like, and trust you; give them a reason to like you, not block you. I see far too often entrepreneurs going after customers and business partners like an animal to its prey. Every picture you take, blog you write, and update you post should answer these three questions; what do you want people to see you as, why should that person like you, and why should that person trust you? Your followers, customers, and potential business partners will see you only how you portray yourself; it is crucial to make a conscious effort to follow these three rules.
Rule number five; a sluggish site is useless. Social Media Marketing takes time and dedication. If you choose to make a professional presence online, it is vital that there is indeed a daily presence. When followers stumble upon an inactive site, with the last status update three months prior, the natural reaction is to pass right over it. If you are using Twitter, I recommend Tweeting at least 10 times per day, Facebook status updates 3 times per day, Linked in 3 times per week, YouTube 2 times per week, and Blogging at least 2 times per week. As you can see, this is a lot of work; it takes time and dedication. Personally, I like to use a service that simultaneously updates all of my Social Media platforms at once. A colleague of mine told me about a company called Only Wire. Only Wire is a service that with one button you can publish everywhere. I use this service, and I love it. It has saved me hours, daily, and it’s free.
Rule number six; be a relevant speaker. When captivating an audience, you must find a way to connect. There are several ways that you can do this; be timely, relevant, active, considerate, social, and knowledgeable. Stay current with breaking news, and update it on your status. If your profile and business is all about cooking, don’t talk daily about fixing cars. Make a daily effort to keep your profile updated, as mentioned in rule number five. Do not offend people; realize that not every person in the world has the same views as you. Pick a topic and become an expert; it is hard to become an overall expert in anything, so keep it simple. Then, after becoming an expert, share it with others; give away your knowledge for free. “If you ain’t giving away your gift, then you ain’t in the game” (1). Make it a daily goal to engage and socialize with people; talk to your friends online, post comments on photos, write on walls, but remember to be relevant.
This is a crash course, obviously, but we all should have the same goal in mind; make a positive impact on the community, on the world, and in our own lives. It is so important to keep moving forward. I have learned time and again that failures lead to excellence; never quit. If you cannot fly, then run. If you cannot run, then walk. If you cannot walk, then crawl; no matter what, keep moving forward. “Stay focused on always heading in the right direction. As long as you are moving away from the distractions of the world and toward that flame of God inside your heart, you’re doing fine. Remember, everyone’s transformation takes place at its own pace” (2).

Modern Slavery In Corporate America by David Lyon
in Business / Entrepreneurship (submitted 2011-11-06)
“Each morning she looks in the mirror
And sees herself bound up in chains
The weight of the world on her shoulders
And with every new day it remains,
From Freedom, she always refrains.
Twenty five years now and counting
Subjected to bondage once more
Oppression, Depression, Regression
A slave in this new Civil War,
With grief she will head out the door.
Complying demands of her Master
Fainthearted with all she’s involved
Perplexed by the piercing look daggers
She dreads the day when she’s absolved,
But every new day unresolved.
The slavedriver knows what she doesn’t
Her value and worth he’ll dispense
No red flags or birds of ill omen
For in his eyes she’s an expense,
He’ll keep her for now in suspense.
Unconscious to all that surrounds her
Persistent with resentful sneers
Desiring the fruits of her labor
But all she could hustle were tears,
Her Boss achieved 25 years” (1).
Day by day I hear and see stories of corporate enslavement, and it honestly makes me angry and sad. I never really understood the concept until two people very dear to me fell victim to this heinous corruption recently. Let me first be clear in stating that not all corporations are detestable. I have been fortunate over the years to meet countless executives that prove what America still stands for. I would also consider myself, even in the worst case scenarios over the years, a man of integrity when it came to the lives of my employees.
I owned a multi-million dollar business with a staff, at times, up to fifteen individuals, and though considered a small business, we did significant things for the world. I never considered myself a good businessman, I simply treated my staff as I would hope to be treated. I was oblivious to what was happening in Corporate America because I naively assumed that all business owners cared for their staff. My employees helped to build my business, eliminate stress, and I rewarded them for it. We took trips around the world, all on the company’s dime, took care of local families, and lived life together. And, though at times the rules were harshly enforced, the work environment was fun. I took an interest in each person, and they were not just an expense on my books. I thought all corporations ran this way.
Several years back, I got a call from my Mom. She was a very hard worker, dedicating 60-80 hours per week to her job. She put in over twenty years, climbing the corporate ladder, making a six figure income for a Fortune 500 Company, and was let go. She was not given a severance package, nor was she given any notice. It was a shock to the family, and a hard blow to me. Not too long after, my mother-in-law, again with no notice, was absolved of her position at another Fortune 500 Company. She gave 31 years, countless hours, and just like that it was all gone. I didn’t understand how people were dispensable until it happened so close to home.
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employers took 1,495 mass layoff actions in September, 2011, involving 153,229 workers (2). At what point will people realize that there is no job security if you are not your own boss?
The idea of Corporate Imprisonment is not a modern concept. Mike Schelstrate says, “For centuries, the ruling elite worldwide have struggled with determining the optimal method of obtaining necessary labor from the lower classes at the least cost in order to increase their power and profits. In the era of European royalty, the peasants provided the labor required to maintain the economy. The peasants regularly worked until they were exhausted, were not allowed to own property, and received wages barely sufficient to feed their families” (3). Take a look at the news today, and for the past few weeks, CNN, unemployment rates, Wall Street Journal; history is repeating itself, and it’s frightening.
On September 17, 2011, in Manhattan New York’s Financial District, a people-powered movement began. It has since spread in the United States to over 100 cities, and 1,500 cities globally. According to Occupy Wall Street, this people-powered movement is “fighting back against the corrosive power of major banks and multinational corporations over the democratic process, and the role of Wall Street in creating an economic collapse that has caused the greatest recession in generations. The movement is inspired by popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, and aims to expose how the richest 1% of people are writing the rules of an unfair global economy that is foreclosing on our future” (4). Our great nation, our world, and our species are in crisis, and movements such as this are in play, but is it the solution? Are unified objections and annoyances the answer to our problems?
If you are not your own boss, your imprisonment is inevitable; it’s a matter of time before you, too, are victim to a layoff, downsizing, or restructure. We can occupy the streets, complain to the richest amongst us, or we can take actions into our own hands and reclaim our lives.
Starting and owning your own business is not difficult, and you do not have to be the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree. Is it easy? No, but neither is getting up every single day to go make someone else rich. I find it amusing that most American’s will get up, rain, snow, or shine, sickness or health, sit in traffic they despise, to make their bosses dreams come true; to send their bosses children to the best schools. Yet, entrepreneurship is not an option because it is hard. There are so many ways to be your own boss, and you do not have to be a millionaire, purchasing a large franchise, to be successful.
If you thought that direct sales, multi-level marketing, network marketing or “MLM” businesses were pyramid schemes and scams, you better think again! As the world’s economy is in a downward spiral, more an more eyes are on the home-based business industry. This 100+ Billion dollar per year industry has business moguls like Donald Trump, Robert Kiyosaki, Richard Branson, and Warren Buffett championing this so called pyramid scheme. Wall Street Journal recently published a 40 page spread on what they describe as the Ultimate Social Business Model. In this 40 page publication it’s not only documented that now is the Prime Time for Direct Selling, but the solution to a shrinking job market. Documentation beats conversation, so you do not need to take it from me.
There are so many direct selling companies to choose from. I personally got involved with a direct selling opportunity in January 2011, and my life has never been the same since. Through injuries, bankruptcy, and life-altering events, my Plan B quickly became my Plan A. I distribute Telecommunications and Energy Products, and I have built a substantial business and team in Colorado. I help residential and commercial customers save money through a company called 5 Linx Enterprises. Is ours the best of the best? Who knows, with so many out there. I would argue that it is, but others would argue that theirs takes first prize. The bottom line is, regardless of which home-based business you choose, storefront you open, corporation or franchise you purchase or start, if you are not your own boss, it’s only a matter of time before it all will come crumbling down, and you will fall victim, joining the hundreds of thousands of Americans, to unemployment. Is it easy? No! Absolutely not! But, neither is a job!.

I Do, Not! by David Lyon
in Marketing / Social Marketing (submitted 2012-01-06)
Before the days of common courtesy and reality, it was customary for two complete strangers to get hitched, falling victim to an arranged marriage. Couples would say their vows and tie the knot, usually against their will, before they even had the chance to date. Call me crazy, but how can you love someone you’ve never met? How can you build a trusting relationship on a solid foundation without a basic understanding of the person you are with? Yes, there are soul mates, and yes there are special circumstances sometimes where these unique arrangements work out, but nine times out of ten it was over before it even began. What does this have to do with business, you ask?
You have to get to know someone, first and foremost, in relationships and in business. People will only do business with people they can trust.
So often in business, especially in sales and marketing, individuals will take an approach that shoots them in the foot. It’s a technique that, in my opinion, rarely has any type of true success rate. Sure, there are times that one might get lucky, beating the odds, but if you think about it, really taking the time to study and analyze the game, you’ll quickly realize that the sales and marketing methods you may have been taught are actually detrimental to your cause.
Meet John. John is an entrepreneur. He just started his first business, and he takes “ignorance on fire” to a whole other level. He is so excited about his new business, and in his eyes the world is his oyster. He feels that he needs to tell every person about his new business, for in his eyes it is an opportunity that every living person in the world needs to hear about. He is on a mission, armed and ready to go out and prospect new business partners. Sound familiar? Just wait! John approaches his warm market and cold market, strangers, family, friends, neighbors, and with excitement hands them a business card; you can see him from a mile away. “You must join me in business”, he joyfully announces to every person that comes across his path.
Now, remember when I said that sometimes a person will get lucky in their prospecting techniques? In this example, John got lucky once or twice; his best friend and his Mom, mostly out of obligation. Guess what happened to the other fifty people that John approached?
John did not know that people only do business with others that they can trust. John should have asked his mentor, if he had one, or an industry veteran, and saved a handful of grief. John, at this point, is feeling upset; his “ignorance on fire”, total excitement, quickly turned into depression and regret when he failed over and over again. For most, unfortunately, this is where most people quit, give up, and turn their backs on their opportunity.
From years of personal past experiences, along with countless cases of documented research, success is measured largely in failures. People learn more by failing than succeeding. Because John is a fighter, he learns to have tough skin, finds a mentor, and tries again; this time, he takes a different approach. This time John learns to date before asking for a lifetime commitment in matrimony.
John sees a stranger, gets to know them, gains their trust, and starts to build a network of warm and cold market prospects; these individuals believe in John, his vision, and feel more comfortable in making life-changing decisions with him. John dated these individuals, and after weeding through the dating process, which we all know how gruesome that can be, he found some people worth asking for their hands in marriage, so to speak. These individuals respect him, trust him, and confidently follow him.
You might be asking, “how do you date a perfect stranger?” There are many ways to get to know someone. Sometimes, this takes a few days, months, hours, or even minutes if you do it properly. Now, without getting into too much detail on Attraction Marketing, I will give you a concept that will change your business, your marketing and sales techniques, and your overall success rate. This is the key to successful prospecting; ask, do not tell. If you ask the right questions, you can get the responses you are looking for. Your overall objective is for your prospect to ask you what you do, what your business is, and how they can learn more about it. You do not want to bombard them with your opportunity and products, no matter how amazing they are. Get to know the person you are dealing with; they will surely open up and tell you everything you seek to hear, as long as you listen and ask the right questions.
John took this information, and tried it out. He looked through his prospecting list, found a friend he went to high school with, but had not spoken to in ten years, and sent her a text message.
“Hey, it’s John. I have not seen you in ages! How are you?”
“I am doing great”, she replied.
“We should get coffee sometime and catch up.”
John’s friend agreed to have coffee. When they met up, he started conversations with her, just like anyone normally would. He asked questions about family, life, her current working situation, all the time waiting for the right opportunity to say something about what he does for a living. She went on to tell him about how she was looking for some type of an opportunity that would allow her to be at home with her new baby. This was John’s chance to say, “well, I might have something that could potentially help you out. It’s what I do, but honestly, it might not be for you. It’s been amazing for me, and several others in our organization, but it isn’t for everyone”. Normally, at this point, the person will ask you what you do. This is your chance to pique their interest. Notice, however, that John waited for her to ask him what he did, rather than him dumping and bombarding her with his opportunity or products. This is the key to marketing, in my opinion, and follows the basic principles of the Laws of Attraction.
Get to know your business partners and customers. A trusting relationship in business is a lasting relationship. By following these Rules and Laws of Attraction, you are certain to see a change in your prospecting, building a solid network that is sure to turn some heads. Plus, you will make some great friends along the way.

What is Ganoderma?
Ganoderma Lucidum is the MOST ALAKALINE FOOD IN THE WORLD and is one of the most revered herbs in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, with a documented history of over 2000 years. Known as Ling Zhi in China and Reishi in Japan. There are references in China going back as far as 100 B.C. where it was referred to as the “Herb of Spiritual Potency” and the “Ten Thousand Year Mushroom” These days it is commonly referred to as the “King of the Herbs”
Ganoderma is one of the most highly regarded medical mushrooms and probably the best choice when looking for a general health tonic to improve overall health and well being and classed as an Adaptogen.
Modern clinical research also supports many of the uses of ganoderma as described in traditional medicine. Benefits: Immune health, cardiovascular health and assists with liver and kidney function.
Ganderma mushroom Grown in the wildGanoderma Lucidum is highly-regarded for its medicinal properties that help improve human body’s healing ability while helping its user to maintain good physical shape. Aside from promoting longevity, Ganoderma Lucidum has unique properties that contribute much to the strengthening of the immune system. Somewhat rare in the West, Ganoderma Lucidum has been worshipped as a kind of herbal medicine the emperors of the great Japanese and Chinese dynasties drank with their special teas and mushroom concoctions to achieve greater vitality and longer life. Ganoderma Lucidum was also believed to be visible in the “elixir of eternal youth” that the ancient Taoists constantly searched for.
A fungus known by its many names like “Reishi,” “Ling zhi,” and “Mannentake,” among others, Ganoderma Lucidum, for hundreds or even thousands of years, is recognized as powerful medicinal fungi because it has properties often associated with health and healing, long life, knowledge, and happiness. In fact, during the ancient time, it is believed that the Ganoderma Lucidum in medicine was considered so promising that its medicinal value has been attested in a 2,000-year old Chinese medical text–known as an authentic textbook of Oriental medical science. For years, medicinal mushrooms such as Ganoderma Lucidum have long been included in the history of folk medicine for contributing much to curing and for showing positive effects to the development of the immune system.
Aside from contributing a lot to the treatment of various diseases, Ganoderma Lucidum has also become popular because of its promising properties that might extend life span while increasing vigor and vitality.
The role of Ganoderma Lucidum in the medical field is quite impressive. While people from different walks of life take interests and contribute a lot in the rediscovery of herbal treatments, the popularity of Ganoderma Lucidum increases steadily.
Under the extensive research continuously done so many scholars, as well as the cooperative analysis and clinical experiments conducted by people in the hospitals, inside the colleges and universities, and even by pharmaceutical manufacturers, Ganoderma Lucidum’s potential as an effective medicine is becoming clearer and defined. And like in ancient China–where Ganoderma Lucidum is considered not just a symbol of ‘prosperity and peace’ or an ‘item of tribute’–the so-called ‘miracle herb’ is now also seen by the people in the modern world as a potential elixir for immortality.
With so many research and emerging evidence how Ganoderma Lucidum helps the body work more effectively, efficiently and optimally, the people who do these extensive and never-ending researches continues to hope that Ganoderma can bring a brighter view to humanity on its conquest for longevity.(1)

Research has demonstrated that Ganoderma Lucidum has several different active constituents. One group of active constituents is the polysaccharides. The various types of polysaccharides found in Ganoderma Lucidum have demonstrated immune-enhancing properties. This includes enhancement of several important interleukins. Another major class of compounds is the triterpenes. These compounds have been reported to have adaptogenic, anti-hypertensive, and anti-allergy effects.
Ganoderma Lucidum has been shown in some studies to inhibit platelet aggregation and reduce blood pressure. In studies of people with hypertension, researchers found blood pressure was significantly reduced over two-weeks’ time with reishi supplementation.
Ganoderma Lucidum is commonly prescribed by practitioners for long-term immune system support. In studies involving patients with advanced tumors, the patients were given Ganoderma Lucidum for thirty days. Researchers found a marked immune-modulating effect as demonstrated by an increase in T lymphocytes and decreased CD8 counts. Patients also reported reduced side effects due to chemotherapy or radiation as well as postoperation recovery.
Blood Sugar Balance
Studies have shown Ganoderma Lucidum to have a blood sugar lowering effect. Much of this activity appears to be due to polysaccharides known as Ganoderans A, B, and C.
It appears there are three main mechanisms behind this hypoglycemic effect. This includes Ganoderma Lucidum’s ability to elevate plasma insulin levels, to enhance peripheral tissue utilization of glucose, and to enhance liver metabolism of glucose.
Studies have shown that hot-water extracts of Ganoderma Lucidum have anti-inflammatory effects. One study found that 50 milligrams of reishi powder had comparable effects to 5 milligrams of hydrocortisone.
Ganoderma Lucidum is commonly used for its hepatoprotective (liver protective) action. One study of patients with hepatitis B and elevated liver enzymes (SGOT/SGPT) and bilirubin were given reishi for three months. Significant reduction in SGOT and SGPT were noticed within one month. After three months all values were within normal range.
One of the unique uses of Ganoderma Lucidum is for altitude sickness. Reishi appears to reduce altitude sickness by oxygenating the blood. This benefit was studied in Asian mountain climbers that ascended mountains as high as 17,000 feet with minimal reaction.(2)

in Marketing / Marketing Tips (submitted 2012-01-06)
I am sure you have heard, time and again, that the mind is a terrible thing to waste. We are capable of so many things, and by using the power of positive thinking, we can truly accomplish anything. Knowing that, and knowing what each of us is capable of, why do so few achieve greatness? Is it because only few are capable, or is it something else entirely?
Time is something that nobody seems to have enough of these days. I find it amusing that, in our busy schedules and our hectic lives, we spend so much of our time enriching the lives of others, usually neglecting ourselves. We will go out of our way to make our bosses and employers content, but at the end of the day, looking in the mirror, we do not even recognize who we see. Some of the most important keys to success in life are personal development and mindset training, but if we spend all of our time improving another’s development, like our employers, how can we work and focus on ourselves?
I am an entrepreneur. I have been since I was a little kid. My Mom tells me that I would color pictures and then sell them to the neighbors. I do remember buying candy at the store and then selling it for a profit. It is the way I was born, but my mindset has changed over the years. No matter how successful I am, how many ladders I climb, how many pin levels I achieve, I will never stop pouring into myself. Personal development, daily, is the key. You must find mentors to model after, and you must find the tools that you need to get where you want to go.
Let me say, first and foremost, that this is not something that happens overnight. Personal development and mindset training are necessary, daily, in order to sculpt you into the person you wish to become. I believe that you will never stop developing yourself, even after you’ve become the person you’ve always dreamt of. There will always be a need for a mentor, guide, and tools to constantly shape you into the person you were born to be. On a daily basis, I spend hours reading, listening to DVD’s, studying, perfecting my craft and skills. After all, how can you help others if you do not have the will power, mentality, and skillset? Remember, you must put your oxygen mask on before putting it on others.
Back to my original question; why do so few achieve greatness? I believe that the majority of people quit before striking gold. One of my favorite stories is from the book, Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill. In this story he tells about how one man struck out three feet from the gold because he decided to quit.
Three Feet from Gold
“One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another.
An uncle of R.U. Darby was caught by the “gold fever” in the gold-rush days, and went west to DIG AND GROW RICH. He had never heard that more gold has been mined from the brains of men than has ever been taken from the earth. He staked a claim and went to work with pick and shovel. The going was hard, but his lust for gold was definite.
After weeks of labor, he was rewarded by the discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to the surface. Quietly, he covered up the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in Williamsburg, Maryland, told his relatives and a few neighbors of the “strike.” They got together money for the needed machinery, had it shipped. The uncle and Darby went back to work the mine.
The first car of ore was mined, and shipped to a smelter. The returns proved they had one of the richest mines in Colorado! A few more cars of that ore would clear the debts. Then would come the big killing in profits.
Down went the drills! Up went the hopes of Darby and Uncle! Then something happened! The vein of gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there! They drilled on, desperately trying to pick up the vein again – all to no avail.
Finally, they decided to QUIT.
They sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home. Some “junk” men are dumb, but not this one! He called in a mining engineer to look at the mine and do a little calculating. The engineer advised that the project had failed, because the owners were not familiar with “fault lines.” His calculations showed that the vein would be found JUST THREE FEET FROM WHERE THE DARBYS HAD STOPPED DRILLING! That is exactly where it was found!
The “Junk” man took millions of dollars in ore from the mine, because he knew enough to seek expert counsel before giving up.
Most of the money which went into the machinery was procured through the efforts of R.U. Darby, who was then a very young man. The money came from his relatives and neighbors, because of their faith in him. He paid back every dollar of it, although he was years in doing so.
Long afterward, Mr. Darby recouped his loss many times over, when he made the discovery that DESIRE can be transmuted into gold. The discovery came after he went into the business of selling life insurance.
Remembering that he lost a huge fortune, because he STOPPED three feet from gold, Darby profited by the experience in his chosen work, by the simple method of saying to himself, “I stopped three feet from gold, but I will never stop because men say ‘no’ when I ask them to buy insurance.”
Darby is one of a small group of fewer than fifty men who sell more than a million dollars in life insurance annually. He owes his “stickability” to the lesson he learned from his “quitability” in the gold mining business.
Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to QUIT. That is exactly what the majority of men do.
More than five hundred of the most successful men this country had ever known, told the author their greatest success came just one step beyond the point at which defeat had overtaken them. Failure is a trickster with a keen sense of irony and cunning. It takes great delight in tripping one when success is almost within reach.”

If you want success in life, you cannot give up. You must be willing to work hard. Find a mentor, someone you look up to, but more than that, someone that is who you want to be. I heard someone say recently that you should never take advice from someone you wouldn’t want to trade places with. Find a role model, and literally learn every single thing they do. Learn to walk like they walk, talk like they talk, move how they move, and live how they live. After all, if they made it to that point in life, they probably have some stories to tell; they probably have some life lessons, along with knowledge that you cannot buy. If you want to be an amazing minister, then start hanging out with ministers. Read all you can about the ministry, and get every book, DVD, CD, and event ticket that you can in order to learn how to be just like them. If you want to be a millionaire, find successful leaders who will take you under their wing. I have found that people are willing to teach, if you are willing to learn. Success and entrepreneurship can absolutely be learned; you must be willing to do the work, however, and never quit.
Do not fall victim to the negative voices that surround your every day, telling you that you are not good enough; telling you that you are not capable. You can do anything and everything that you set your mind to. If you are willing to put in the time and effort to send your bosses kids to the best schools, and enrich the life of your boss, shouldn’t you spend equal or more time focusing on you? The only way to fail is to quit. If you never quit, then you can never fail. After all, aren’t you worth it?
A Revolutionary Approach To Modern Fundraising: Raise Money For Your Cause Without Asking For Money by David Lyon
in Non-Profit (submitted 2011-12-13)
In a downward spiraling economy, non-profit organizations all around the nation are suffering. Schools, art programs, churches, music programs, symphonies, sports and athletic programs, just to name a few, are becoming obsolete. Where is the government in all of this? I think we all know the answer to that one.
We all know how traditional fundraising works; the candy bars, booklets, expensive tables and expensive dinners. With the world in the worst shape than it has ever been in, and non-profit organizations suffering more than ever, a solution is not only desired and needed, but is crucial. How can we serve the world, take care of the poor, support our favorite organizations and causes, without the extra money in our pockets?
Telenergy Inc, a Colorado based Telecom and Energy Company, has found a solution, and it is spreading through the nation like a wild fire. Through a program called Linx2Funds, built by a very powerful INC 500 company based in Rochester, NY, Telenergy Inc has created a solution.
Through a partnership with most major service providers in the Telecom industry, including cell phone providers, home security, satellite tv, internet, and phone service providers, organizations can collect money, monthly, without having to ask their donors for money. Sound impossible? It isn’t. Sound too good to be true? It absolutely isn’t.
Let’s say, for example, that No Name High School, has several programs within the school that are hurting financially; music, arts, athletic departments being cut. Most of the time, these programs already have a Board of Directors, or a Fundraising Committee. Traditional fundraising, candy bars, pamphlets, pies, coupon books, bake sales, everyday door to door sales techniques, are not bringing the type of financial gain that is needed to support the organization. Further, with crime rates up, parents are having a hard time allowing their children to walk through the neighborhoods to raise funds. This is problematic to the organization. So, let’s take that same organization, and let’s give them a website full of products, plans, services, and solutions they are already using in their homes, and let’s give that organization a way that they can get paid on those monthly services. We know that almost every household has most of those services, internet, phone service, cell phones and satellite tv, and they are paying the services monthly anyway, correct? How about we give the organization a way to make a commission every month when those parents, students, faculty, and supporters pay their bills? They are going to pay them anyway, correct? They are going to pay them every single month for the term of their contract, correct? Why not let the organization make a cut of it, thus supporting the cause? It is as simple as that.
This organization can have an event. For the example of the high school, they can have an assembly. With parents and supporters on site, they can announce that the programs that their children love, like the music and athletic departments, are suffering, and will more than likely be cut. Most parents will do anything for their children, correct? I remember when I was in high school, music meant the world to me. My parents supported every fundraiser, because without the funds, the music program would be cut. These days, it seems every week another school and district is losing their funds. Let’s say that the speaker at the assembly or event says that they have found a way that they can keep the programs, fund raise, and the parents would not have to open their wallets. In fact, 9 times out of 10, the parents and supporters would actually save money. They are using these products and services anyway, correct? And, they are paying for them each month anyway, correct? Why not let their organization make a profit each month when that bill is paid?
From this one event, this one assembly, let’s say that each parent, 500 total, switched one service in their home over, so that the school and organization would profit. This organization could be getting thousands of dollars of bonuses from these major service providers, as well as a monthly residual income, for the term of each parents contact. Sound too good to be true? It isn’t.
This is a free program; no cost to the organization. The power is in residual income; do something one time, and get paid over and over. Organizations can forget about the door to door sales, the traditional fundraising, and can use this revolutionary new fundraising method; raise money without asking for money, and get paid every month from doing something once.
This program can save our schools, the arts, the HOA’s, the churches and ministries, the local symphonies, the PTA’s, and every other non-profit organization that exists. Isn’t it worth a try? If it could be the answer, isn’t it worth the effort? It does not cost anything.

Do You Use Protection? Understand The Fastest Growing and Number One Crime In America by David Lyon
in Self Help / Advice (submitted 2011-11-07)
Did you know that Identity Theft is the number one crime in America? The FTC estimates that as many as 9 million Americans have their identities stolen every year. Simply put, Identity Theft occurs when someone uses your personally identifying information, like your name, Social Security number, or credit card number, without your permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. The crime takes many forms. Thieves may rent an apartment, obtain a credit card, or establish a utility account in your name. Unfortunately, you may not find out about the theft until it has already harmed your credit score, shown up on a credit card statement, or until you’re contacted by a debt collector. This is a serious crime, and unless you are protected, you will be responsible for the financial consequences.
According to the Federal Trade Commission or FTC, there are several ways that a thief can steal your identity. Some of the common ways include dumpster diving, skimming, phishing, changing your address, old-fashioned stealing, and pretexting. Here is a breakdown of each:
• Dumpster Diving. They rummage through trash looking for bills or other paper with your personal information on it.
• Skimming. They steal credit/debit card numbers by using a special storage device when processing your card.
• Phishing. They pretend to be financial institutions or companies and send spam or pop-up messages to get you to reveal your personal information.
• Changing Your Address. They divert your billing statements to another location by completing a change of address form.
• Old-Fashioned Stealing. They steal wallets and purses; mail, including bank and credit card statements; pre-approved credit offers; and new checks or tax information. They steal personnel records, or bribe employees who have access.
• Pretexting. They use false pretenses to obtain your personal information from financial institutions, telephone companies, and other sources.
Once a thief has your personal information, it can be used in many ways:
Credit card fraud:
• They may open new credit card accounts in your name. When they use the cards and don’t pay the bills, the delinquent accounts appear on your credit report.
• They may change the billing address on your credit card so that you no longer receive bills, and then run up charges on your account. Because your bills are now sent to a different address, it may be some time before you realize there’s a problem.
Phone or utilities fraud:
• They may open a new phone or wireless account in your name, or run up charges on your existing account.
• They may use your name to get utility services like electricity, heating, or cable TV.
• They may create counterfeit checks using your name or account number.
• They may open a bank account in your name and write bad checks.
• They may clone your ATM or debit card and make electronic withdrawals your name, draining your accounts.
• They may take out a loan in your name.
Government documents fraud:
• They may get a driver’s license or official ID card issued in your name but with their picture.
• They may use your name and Social Security number to get government benefits.
• They may file a fraudulent tax return using your information.
• They may get a job using your Social Security number.
• They may rent a house or get medical services using your name.
• They may give your personal information to police during an arrest. If they don’t show up for their court date, a warrant for arrest is issued in your name.
Unfortunately, many consumers find out about their stolen identity after it is too late, when damage has already been done. One of the key weapons a consumer can have against identity theft is protection. Awareness is an effective weapon, and if you know what to look for, you can help to uncover problems quickly. Being armed with knowledge is one of the best things that you can do, as long as you are proactive about monitoring your credit and statements.
Personally, I do not have the time to monitor my statements and my credit each month. I am a very busy man, and that is not an effective use of my time. There are several companies out there that will monitor your identity. There is a different between a credit monitoring service and an actual identity monitoring service. Most credit monitoring services will simply monitor your credit with the three major credit bureaus. However, an identity theft monitoring service will actually monitor billions of data points. On top of that, you are reimbursed for lost wages as a result of time taken off for work, notary and certified mail charges, fees to re-apply for loans, long distance telephone charges, and attorney fees. If you are not protected, you are responsible for all of these fees. I personally use 5 Linx ID Guard. For $14.95 per month they will not only monitor, insure, and help to restore your stolen identity, but will also give you a free copy of Bit Defender software. That in itself is a fantastic value. I run several businesses, and my computers need to be protected. Is 5 Linx ID Guard the best choice? Who knows, it was for me. But, no matter what, you need to be protected. It is estimated by the Identity Theft Resource Center that it takes over 600 hours of personal time and thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses for an individual to restore his or her credit after being victimized. I do not know about you, but if 1 and 10 people fall victim to this rapidly growing crime, and it’s already the number one crime in America, $14.95 per month for protection doesn’t seem that bad. That’s just me. But no matter what, educate yourself!

Local Denver Business Taking Advantage Of The Largest Shift Of Wealth In The History Of The United States by David Lyon
in News / Press Releases (submitted 2011-11-04)
The Energy Industry is a 500 Billion Dollar Industry, and local Colorado based business, Telenergy Inc, has positioned itself to take full advantage of this wealth trend.
Do you remember in the 1980′s when Long Distance was deregulated? It was not that long ago consumers had one provider to choose from when it came to their phone bills. Did that seem fair? Judge Green did not think so, and in the early 80′s the monopolies were broken up. A monopoly exists when a specific person or enterprise is the only supplier of a particular commodity. Certain companies, like Southern Pacific Railroad, positioned themselves at the right place and the right time. It is all about timing and positioning.
Southern Pacific Railroad International, better known as Sprint, is now the third largest telecommunications network in the United States, according to Wikipedia. Sprint saw a trend forming when long distance was deregulated, and positioned their company to where they are now. Clever, isn’t it? A transportation company, seeing a trend, a massive shift of wealth, and completely repositioning the company to take full advantage of this deregulation; sounds pretty smart to me.
As we speak, two of the largest shifts of wealth in the history of the United States are taking place. Experts say that the number one industries of the next decade are Energy and VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol. Simply put, VoIP is a technology that allows telephone calls to be made over the internet. VoIP converts analog voice signals into digital data. The Wall Street Journal listed the Top 10 Thriving Industries, with VoIP at number one.
In recent years, cable services for televisions went from analog to digital. Did consumers have the choice? No, they did not. Everything is going digital these days, and like it or not, telephones are too. This will happen, whether consumers are ready or not, and residential and commercial customers will be using VoIP in the coming years, experts say. So, why not take advantage of this inevitable transformation? Again, timing and positioning are the key to success.
Telenergy Inc was not always in the energy and telecommunications industry. In fact, the owner was in Construction, Furnishings, and Retail Showrooms. But, seeing a trend, and learning from experts in the past, Telenergy Inc has positioned itself to become the leader in Colorado’s market for VOIP and Energy. When it comes to timing and positioning, Telenergy Inc is at the forefront in Colorado.
